The following work plan is organized according to the six priorities in the
SC SHRAB state plan for historical records. Please note that many
activities related to those priorities are being undertaken by other South
Carolina organizations and institutions and are not reflected in this work plan
for the SC SHRAB.
PRIORITY A: Educate the Public on the Importance and Significance of
Historical Records.
- Promote celebration of National Archives Week statewide.
- Complete work on an historical records public awareness plan for South
Carolina.
- Continue support for SC History Day through travel support scholarships.
PRIORITY B: Increase Financial Support for South Carolina’s historical
records.
- Promote the NHPRC grant program to SC archival repositories.
- Conduct a project to regrant funds from the National Historical
Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC) to repositories of non-government
historical records repositories, archival organizations, and local governments
for historical records projects (see:
regrant funds)
PRIORITY C: Increase Archival Education/Training and Program Development
- Provide grant support for presentations and publications addressing key
archival topics by SC organizations (see Priority B, above).
- Continue maintenance of the SC Archival Community Listserv.
PRIORITY D: Ensure that South Carolina’s Historical Records are Preserved
and Accessible for Use
- Continue distribution and updating of the SC SHRAB Directory of SC
Historical Records Repositories.
- Continue support for the state and local government records advisory
councils (see below, Priority F).
- Promote activities and grant proposals that address one or more of the
four goals under this priority.
PRIORITY E: Address the Challenges Posed by the Proliferation of
Information Technology and Electronic Records.
- Encourage electronic records grant proposals to the SC SHRAB and NHPRC
from SC repositories and organizations.
PRIORITY F: Ensure a Productive and Visible State Historical Records
Advisory Board.
- Issue an annual report on 2004 activities and accomplishments.
- Encourage and support meetings of two affiliate
SC SHRAB groups: the State
and Local Government Records Advisory Councils
to assist the SC SHRAB in the implementation and monitoring of the
state
plan for historical records.
- Develop and submit a grant proposal to the NHPRC for SC SHRAB activities
and state plan update, 2006-2007.
